What is BaZi?
BaZi, also called the Four Pillars of Destiny, is a classical Chinese system about a thousand years old. It interprets your character and the timing of your life from the five elements at the date and time of your birth. On Sheng Pin Kai, your chart is computed from your exact birth details, and you can ask about your career, relationships, family or the years ahead in a private consultation that follows your decade phases and annual phases.

Start the courseAn exacting craft, far deeper than your zodiac animal.
Many people know BaZi only as their zodiac animal, and hobbyists add the five elements. The classical tradition is a precise, written method for reading how a life unfolds, and every consultation here draws on it. Four of its techniques:
Day Master strength (日主)
The anchor of the chart. How strong or weak it is changes the meaning of every other element around it.
The Ten Elemental Relationships (十神)
How each element relates to your Day Master, and what that shows about career, wealth and relationships.
Decade & annual phases (大运 · 流年)
Timing. How the same chart lives through different ten-year and one-year phases, so the same pillars read differently across your life.
Combinations & clashes (刑冲会合)
The fine interactions between elements that a hurried interpretation glosses over, treated here as the key to an accurate interpretation.
Every technique named here is implemented from the classical method and used in live consultations.

Questions about BaZi
BaZi means "eight characters" in Chinese. A chart has four pillars, for the year, month, day and hour of birth, and each pillar holds two characters: a heavenly stem and an earthly branch.
The Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day pillar. The whole chart is interpreted in relation to it, so its strength, from very weak to very strong, shapes the meaning of every other element in the chart.
A decade phase is a ten-year period your chart passes through, and an annual phase is a single year inside its decade phase. Setting the natal chart against these phases shows how the same four pillars express themselves differently across a lifetime.
The hour of birth sets the hour pillar, and the exact date and time also fix the month pillar and the age at which your first decade phase begins. An accurate birth time is what makes the chart, and every answer drawn from it, accurate.
A Chinese zodiac animal comes from the year of birth alone, and it is just one of the eight characters in a BaZi chart. BaZi works with all four pillars, the five elements between them, the decade phases and the annual phases, so two people born in the same year can have very different charts.
You can ask about career and wealth, relationships, family, purpose and the years ahead.
