Hellenistic astrology is the original Western astrology, developed in the Greek-speaking world about 2,000 years ago and restored in recent decades from rediscovered source texts, including the works of Ptolemy, Dorotheus and Valens. Astrology as a system is about 2,000 years old. It was developed in the ancient Hellenistic (Greek) world and practiced widely for centuries. Then, around the 18th century, the rise of scientific thinking pushed astrology to the margins. Most of the original texts were lost during that period. When interest came back in the early 20th century, almost nobody had access to those original books. Practitioners had to start over.
