The Wealth structure
When the month branch gives Direct or Indirect Wealth, the chart has a Wealth structure. See what holds yours up, what can unsettle it and what restores it.

In Four Pillars of Destiny (BaZi), a chart has a Wealth structure when the stem taken from its month branch is Direct or Indirect Wealth, the element the Day Master controls. Wealth is valued because it serves the Day Master and generates the Officer. Using it takes strength: the Day Master has to be strong enough to carry it.
Wealth is not divided into indirect and direct; both are taken as one structure. The True Interpretation of Ziping (子平真诠; Qing dynasty, 18th century) explains why it is valued:
财为我克,使用之物也,以能生官,所以为美。Our translation: Wealth is what I control, a thing to be put to use; because it can generate the Officer, it is counted as good.
Commentary on the True Interpretation of Ziping (子平真诠评注; ROC, 1936) says only a strong Day Master can control its Wealth; a weak one has Wealth but cannot carry it. The Deep Sea of Ziping (渊海子平; Ming dynasty, 16th century) also says Wealth should be in season, not plentiful, and only a Day Master with force can enjoy it.

What holds it up
Wealth should have deep roots: rooted in the branches, and not revealed too many times on the stems. One Wealth revealed and clearly used is just right. Common pairings in a Wealth structure:
- Strong Wealth generating the Officer: the Day Master is strong, Wealth generates the Officer, and the Officer checks Peers and protects Wealth. No Hurting Officer is revealed, and no Seven Killings is mixed in.
- The Food Star generating Wealth: the Day Master is strong, no Officer shows, and the Food Star generates Wealth. One Peer feeding the Food Star lets the energy flow further.
- Wealth with Resource: the Day Master leans weak and uses Resource for support. Wealth and Resource must be kept apart, out of each other’s way.
- Wealth with Seven Killings: combine Seven Killings away and keep Wealth, or let the Food Star check Seven Killings while it also generates Wealth.
- The Hurting Officer channeling Rob Wealth: when Peers are strong and Wealth light, one revealed Hurting Officer turns the Peers’ energy toward generating Wealth.

What can unsettle it
- Peers sharing out the Wealth. The Deep Sea of Ziping, on Indirect Wealth, also says what it fears most is siblings coming to share it out.
- Heavy Wealth and a weak Day Master that cannot carry it.
- Wealth generating Seven Killings, which then turns on the Day Master.
- Wealth standing right beside Resource and breaking it.

What restores it
- When Peers share out the Wealth, an Officer checks the Peers, or the Food Star or Hurting Officer channels their energy toward generating Wealth.
- When the Day Master is weak, Resource and Peers that support it are welcome.
- When Wealth generates Seven Killings against the Day Master, the Food Star checks Seven Killings, or something combines Seven Killings away.

Decade phases
The True Interpretation of Ziping, on decade phases for Wealth, takes each pairing in turn. For example, when strong Wealth generates the Officer and the Day Master is light, decade phases of support and Resource suit, and Seven Killings and the Hurting Officer do not. When the Food Star generates Wealth and Wealth and the Food Star are heavy while the Day Master is light, decade phases of support suit; when the Day Master is heavy, Wealth and the Food Star still suit. The principle matches the natal chart: make up the weaker side, and avoid what the natal chart does not welcome. The details are in the lesson on decade phases and your structure.

Try it on your chart
- Confirm the pivot is Wealth: the stem taken from the month is the element the Day Master controls, Direct or Indirect Wealth alike.
- See whether Wealth is rooted in the branches, and how many times it is revealed on the stems.
- Check the Day Master’s strength: if it is strong, look for the Officer or the Food Star; if it is weak, look for Resource or Peers.
- Look for Peers and Seven Killings: is Wealth being shared out, or generating Seven Killings?
- If there is Resource, see whether Wealth and Resource stand side by side or are kept apart.
