The Month Prosperity structure

In Four Pillars of Destiny (BaZi), a chart has a Month Prosperity structure when the Day Master is born in the month of its own Prosperity, or in a month whose main stem is its Rob Wealth. That month is the Day Master’s own element and cannot itself be the structural pivot. The structure is taken instead on the Wealth, Officer, Seven Killings or Output revealed or combined elsewhere in the chart, while the month still leads.

A Day Master born in its own Prosperity month is called Month Prosperity (建禄); a Day Master born in a month whose main stem is its Rob Wealth is called Month Rob Wealth (月劫). Both months are the Day Master’s own element, and the books take them as one structure. The True Interpretation of Ziping (子平真诠; Qing dynasty, 18th century) explains:

建禄者，月建逢禄堂也，禄即是劫。

Our translation: Month Prosperity means the month meets the seat of Prosperity; and the Prosperity is simply Rob Wealth.

The Prosperity is a Peer and cannot be the structural pivot; even revealed on the stems, it cannot be used. So Month Prosperity and Month Rob Wealth need not be told apart: both look elsewhere in the four pillars for Wealth, the Officer, Seven Killings or the Food Star, revealed on a stem or combined in the branches, while the month still leads. Commentary on the True Interpretation of Ziping (子平真诠评注; ROC, 1936) says that once this is taken, the chart is looked at just like a Wealth, Officer, Seven Killings or Output structure. Comprehensive Guide to the Three Fates (三命通会; Ming dynasty, 16th century), on Month Prosperity, also says a Prosperity month offers nothing to take in itself, and the year and hour must be checked for what is revealed.

A Day Master is Month Prosperity when born in these months: Yang Wood in a Tiger month, Yin Wood in a Rabbit month, Yang Fire and Yang Earth in a Snake month, Yin Fire and Yin Earth in a Horse month, Yang Metal in a Monkey month, Yin Metal in a Rooster month, Yang Water in a Pig month, Yin Water in a Rat month. A Day Master is Month Rob Wealth when born in these: Yin Wood in a Tiger month, Yin Fire in a Snake month, Yang Earth in an Ox or Goat month, Yin Earth in a Dragon or Dog month, Yin Metal in a Monkey month, Yin Water in a Pig month. A yang Day Master born in its Blade month has the Yang Blade structure instead, not Month Rob Wealth. An Earth Day Master born in a Dragon, Dog, Ox or Goat month, with none of the month’s hidden stems revealed or combined, also belongs to this structure; see the lesson on taking the structure from the month.

For a Yang Earth Day Master born in a Snake month, or Yin Earth in a Horse month, the month’s main stem is the Day Master’s Resource; here it is taken as Prosperity and belongs to Month Prosperity. The general method is in the lesson on taking the structure from the month.

Yin Earth born in a Snake month is not Month Rob Wealth. The Snake is Yin Earth’s peak, but its main stem, Yang Fire, is Yin Earth’s Resource, not its Rob Wealth, so it is taken as Resource and belongs to the Resource structure. The month supports the Day Master, so the Day Master is mostly strong. Month Prosperity and Month Rob Wealth both take restraining use: it is best checked by the Officer, or channeled by the Food Star or Hurting Officer toward generating Wealth.

What to use

• Using the Officer: the Officer is best revealed on the stems, with Wealth or Resource beside it; a lone Officer with no support does not suit. Resource protects the Officer by checking the Hurting Officer; Wealth helps it by generating it. With Wealth, Officer and Resource all present and the Officer standing between Wealth and Resource to keep them apart, the structure is larger still.
• Using Wealth: it needs the Food Star or Hurting Officer to turn Rob Wealth’s energy toward generating Wealth. When a branch combination turns Rob Wealth into Wealth, or into Output that generates Wealth, the book finds it especially refined.
• Using Seven Killings: it must be checked, usually by the Food Star. When Seven Killings is used and Wealth is present, a combination that removes Seven Killings and leaves Wealth also forms a structure.
• Using Output: with no Wealth or Officer, the Food Star or Hurting Officer drains the excess energy. A Wood Day Master in spring meeting Fire, or a Metal Day Master in autumn meeting Water, is the most refined.
• The Officer and Seven Killings both out: clear the mix, either combining away Seven Killings or checking it, and keep the Officer.

What can unsettle it

• No Wealth or Officer, with Seven Killings and Resource revealed: Seven Killings generates Resource, Resource generates the Day Master, and an already strong Day Master grows stronger with no outlet.
• Using the Officer, and the Hurting Officer attacks it.
• Using Wealth, with Seven Killings present: Wealth turns to generating Seven Killings.
• A lone Officer with no support: the structure stays small.

What restores it

• Using the Officer and meeting the Hurting Officer: the Hurting Officer is bound by a combination, which removes it and keeps the Officer.
• Using Wealth with Seven Killings: Seven Killings is bound by a combination, and Wealth no longer generates it.

Decade phases

The True Interpretation of Ziping, on decade phases for Month Prosperity, says each chart is matched by the structure it forms, as for that structure. For example, when the Officer is used with Resource protecting it, Wealth decade phases suit, and the Officer combined away or Seven Killings mixing in are to be watched; Output cannot harm it, and Peers are not necessarily bad. Try it on your chart

1. Using the months above, see whether the month branch is the Day Master’s Prosperity or Month Rob Wealth. An Earth Day Master in a Dragon, Dog, Ox or Goat month with nothing revealed or combined counts too.
2. Do not use the month branch itself. Look in the four pillars for Wealth, the Officer, Seven Killings, the Food Star or the Hurting Officer revealed on the stems, and for any combination formed with the month branch.
3. If you find the Officer, see whether Wealth or Resource is beside it; if Wealth, whether there is Output; if Seven Killings, whether the Food Star checks it.
4. See whether a Hurting Officer attacks the Officer or Seven Killings mixes in, and whether anything binds them by combination.
5. If there is no Wealth or Officer, see whether Output gives the strong energy an outlet.
